Professor Adrian Săftoiu, MD, PhD, MSc, FASGE, AGAF has a long-standing expertise as a senior gastroenterologist, being the Scientific Director of the Research Center of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Craiova, Romania.
Prof. Săftoiu graduated in 1995 in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Craiova, followed by specializations in internal medicine (2000) and gastroenterology (2002). Prof. Săftoiu has received intensive training in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, with emphasis on endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), in several centers, including University Hospital Aarhus and Gentofte University Hospital, Denmark. Other clinical stages included telemedicine training at the East-West Space Science Center, University of Maryland at College Park, USA, confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) training at the University of Mainz, Germany and a short-term observer visit in MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA.
From September 2012, Prof. Săftoiu holds a position of Visiting Clinical Professor at the Department of Endoscopy, Copenhagen University Herlev Hospital, Denmark. From 2015, Prof. Săftoiu is a visiting Prof. at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.
Scientific activity of Prof. Săftoiu included the publication of 382 Web of Science publications, several of them in high impact publications, cited 7214 times in other journals (Web of Science accessed January 2021), leading to a Hirsch index (h-index) of 37. Also, Prof. Săftoiu published 17 books and book chapters, including 8 international book chapters. Prof. Săftoiu is member of several scientific societies in Romania and abroad, including the Executive Board of the European Federation of Societies of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB), Public Affairs Working Group of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Fellow (FASGE) and American Gastroenterological Association Fellow (AGAF).
