Cristina Chammas, The President welcomed everyone to the Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) and the Honorary Secretary confirmed that the meeting was officially convened following compliance with the current constitutional requirements.
The President advised that the EGA had been called partly as a result of the AIUM unwillingness to work with WFUMB until some changes were implemented. WFUMB took this in a positive light and following the independent survey WFUMB invoked a Constitution Task Force Group (TFG) which led to the constitutional changes that are proposed in a number of areas where the wording was unclear and have clarified all these areas. In addition, measures to ensure more transparency, equality, diversity, and fairness have been implemented including a limit on the terms of officers to ensure the organisation is more inclusive. The Constitution Committee and Administrative Council (AC) have taken further steps with other proposals for voting.
The five-year strategic plan evolved from WFUMB’s meeting with industry and is proposed as a document for renewal each year by the AC setting out WFUMB’s goals and objectives.
The Secretary briefly summarized the proposed changes as follows:
The ballot was closed and all the results can be viewed electronically: https://vote.electionrunner.com/election/agbBU/results

Our multidisciplinary ultrasound conference was held 16-18 September 2022 in the beautiful city of Adelaide. Our conference was delivered in a hybrid format, combining didactic and hands-on workshops with an inspiring program to take us into the future together.
A huge thank you to our Scientific committee and presenters for their hard work and contribution in creating and delivering such professional development for our ultrasound community.
We are incredibly grateful for our Corporate Partners and Exhibitors, supporting and participating in ASUM2022. Their industry knowledge provides a wealth of information to enable us to meet our mission.
For those attending in-person, there was a buzz of energy as we came together again as a community, whether for workshops, lectures, and networking.
Following our Annual General Meeting, we recognise the enormous contribution of Dr Karen Mizia as she steps into the immediate Past President role for ASUM. We offer her our sincere thanks for her contribution, leadership and unwavering commitment to ASUM and the ultrasound profession to deliver healthier lives for all by driving ultrasound excellence.
ASUM welcomes Alison Deslandes as ASUM President. Alison is a sonographer based in Adelaide, having actively served on the Board of Directors for four years. We look forward to Alison's leadership, along with the Board, to deliver our strategic plan. In addition to a new President, ASUM welcomes new directors to the Board. Updated Board of Directors may be found on our website.
ASUM Drive, our digital on-demand library, has launched to deliver digital content in a modern and easily accessible way. Our members receive this complimentary and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Currently we have uploaded over 500 presentations from conferences and webinars. We will continue to add new content each month. While our members receive this as part of their member benefits, we have recently launched the option for the wider ultrasound community to subscribe to ASUM Drive annually.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are at least 125 times more likely to develop Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) than Non-Indigenous Australians. RHD takes the lives of two young indigenous Australians each week. Studies have demonstrated the usefulness of echocardiography screening in the diagnosis of undetected RHD. ASUM will launch a pilot for echocardiography training in the new year, focusing efforts on healthcare workers visiting remote communities. We are excited to deliver this program with the expectation of making a significant difference and creating healthier lives for all by driving ultrasound excellence.
