A recommended search technique for the uterus in the transverse plane is as
follows:
-
With the probe in the transverse plane in the midline, find the
fundus of the uterus
-
Move the probe towards the patient's left and start to angle
upwards and downwards, still in the transverse plane
-
Look for the left ovary between the fundus of the uterus in the
midline, and the iliac vessels which lie close to the pelvic side
wall
-
Now do the same on the right side
Alternatively a similar directed approach can be used with the probe
in the longitudinal plane, as
follows:
-
In the midline, find the fundus of the uterus
-
Angle the probe to the patient's left, still in the longitudinal
plane
-
Look for the left ovary between the fundus of the uterus in the
midline, and the iliac vessels which lie close to the pelvic side
wall
-
Now do the same on the right side
