The lower part of the uterus develops later in pregnancy and the placenta position may be assessed again, usually around 34 weeks. It can be difficult in the third trimester to see the placenta, especially if the placenta is behind the baby in the posterior position. The baby has also grown bigger, making it difficult to visualise the internal os of the cervix.
