Ultrasound is used to determine the number of fetuses in a multiple pregnancy.
This ultrasound image shows an early pregnancy showing 6 gestation sacs indicating a sextuplet pregnancy.
Parts of 2 fetuses are shown in gestation sacs labelled 1 and 4. The crown-rump length of the fetus in gestation sac 4 is measured.
A sextuplet pregnancy is very rare.
