Karen Mizia


Dr Mizia is an Obstetrician Gynecologist and recognised subspecialist in Obstetric and Gynecological Ultrasound. She has worked in O&G Ultrasound for over 15 years and has a high level of expertise in the diagnosis, procedural skills, management and delivery of complex fetal anomalies and gynecological issues. She currently holds the following positions:

  • President of the Australia Society of Ultrasound in Medicine.
  • Chair of the NSW Regional Committee for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrician Gynecologists.
  • Conjoint Clinical Lecturer, Sydney University
  • Examiner for RANZCOG, Sydney University and ASUM
  • Head of Department, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney

Professor Wiem DOUIRA-KHOMSI has a standing expertise as a senior in Pediatric Radiology, being the Head of department of radiology in the Children Hospital of Tunis, Tunisia since 2019. Prof. DOUIRA-KHOMSI graduated in 1997 in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tunis, Tunisia, followed by specializations in Radiogy (2003) and Pediatric Radiology (2010).

Scientific activity of Prof. DOUIRA-KHOMSI included the publication of 89 ISI Web of Science publications, cited 261 times in other ISI journals (ISI Web of Science accessed December 2020), leading to a Hirsch index (h-index) of 9. Also, Prof. DOUIRA-KHOMSI has participated with Prof Hassen GHARBI in the writing of 2 book chapters published.

Prof. DOUIRA-KHOMSI is member of several scientific societies in Tunisia and abroad, including the Tunisian Society of Radiology (STR), the Tunisian Society of Pediatry (STP), the Tunisian Society of Doppler and Ultrasound (STED), Tunisian Association for Radiation Protection against ionizing and non-ionizing radiation (ATPRI&NI), French Society of Radiology (SFR), French Society of Pediatric and Perinatal Imaging (SFIPP), French College of Fetal Ultrasound (CFEF).

During past 20 years, Dr. DOUIRA-KHOMSI took part at more than 40 international congresses, symposiums and workshops, through conferences, oral presentations, workshops and posters displayed. Prof. DOUIRA taught more than 250 hours at the Tunisian Medical School, the Higher School of Health Sciences and Techniques in Tunis and Specialty Colleges.

Adrian Săftoiu

Professor Adrian Săftoiu, MD, PhD, MSc, FASGE, AGAF has a long-standing expertise as a senior gastro­entero­logist, being the Scientific Director of the Research Center of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, University of Medi­cine and Pharmacy Craiova, Romania.

Prof. Săftoiu graduated in 1995 in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Craiova, followed by specializations in internal medicine (2000) and gastroenterology (2002). Prof. Săftoiu has received intensive training in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endos­copy, with emphasis on endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retro­grade cholangio­­pancreatogra­phy (ERCP), in several centers, including University Hospital Aarhus and Gentofte University Hospital, Denmark. Other clinical stages included telemedicine training at the East-West Space Science Center, University of Maryland at College Park, USA, confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) training at the University of Mainz, Germany and a short-term observer visit in MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA.

From September 2012, Prof. Săftoiu holds a position of Visiting Clinical Professor at the Department of Endoscopy, Copenhagen University Herlev Hospital, Denmark. From 2015, Prof. Săftoiu is a visiting Prof. at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.

Scientific activity of Prof. Săftoiu included the publication of 382 Web of Science publications, several of them in high impact publications, cited 7214 times in other jour­nals (Web of Science accessed January 2021), leading to a Hirsch index (h-index) of 37. Also, Prof. Săftoiu published 17 books and book chapters, including 8 international book chapters. Prof. Săftoiu is member of several scientific societies in Romania and abroad, including the Executive Board of the European Federation of Societies of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB), Public Affairs Working Group of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Fellow (FASGE) and American Gastro­entero­logical Association Fellow (AGAF).
